BODY MEASUREMENT GUIDE

How to Measure for Workwear

Use a flexible measuring tape and measure over light clothing. Keep the tape level and comfortably close to the body without pulling it tight.

01

Chest or Bust

Measure around the fullest part of the chest or bust, keeping the tape horizontal. This is a key measurement for work shirts, jackets, vests and coveralls.

02

Waist

Measure around the natural waist or the position specified by the garment chart. Trouser sizing may refer to a lower waist position.

03

Hips and Seat

Measure around the fullest part of the hips and seat. This helps assess the fit of work trousers, overalls and fitted uniform garments.

04

Inside Leg

Measure from the crotch to the required trouser hem position. An existing pair of correctly fitting trousers can also provide a useful inseam reference.

Before measuring: Stand naturally, use a flexible tape, and record the figures in inches or centimetres. For jackets and coveralls, account for the layers normally worn underneath.
MEASUREMENT REFERENCE

Workwear Sizing: Inches and Centimetres

This reference table converts body measurements between inches and centimetres. It is useful when comparing garment size charts that use different units.

Measurement Conversion Chart

1 inch = 2.54 centimetres

BODY MEASUREMENT REFERENCE
Inches Centimetres Inches Centimetres
28"71.1 cm36"91.4 cm
30"76.2 cm38"96.5 cm
32"81.3 cm40"101.6 cm
34"86.4 cm42"106.7 cm
Important: These numbers are exact unit conversions rounded to one decimal place, not a garment size chart. Sizes marked S, M, L, XL or with numerical codes vary by manufacturer, style and fit. Use the size chart attached to the individual product to select the correct garment size.

Preparing Sizes for a Team Order

For bulk workwear orders, collecting accurate employee measurements before placing an order helps purchasing teams organize sizes, quantities and future replacement requirements.

A workforce may require different garment fits, even when employees work in the same department. Record approved sizes against each specific product rather than assuming one size applies to every garment.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Workwear Sizing FAQs

Practical guidance for selecting garments and organizing business uniform orders.

Are workwear sizes the same as everyday clothing sizes?

Not always. Workwear sizing can differ by brand, fabric, fit and garment construction. Use body measurements and the specific product chart instead of relying only on a familiar clothing size.

Should employees order one size larger for coveralls?

Not automatically. Check the manufacturer's size chart and consider the layers worn underneath. The selected size should allow normal workplace movement.

Why is inside-leg measurement important?

Correct leg length helps prevent excess material at the hem and improves the positioning of knee features on certain work trousers.

How should businesses collect sizes for bulk orders?

Record measurements, chosen products and approved sizes separately for each employee. For large orders, a fit trial can help confirm garment selection before a full rollout.
